A High Calibre individual with 30 years IT Experience within both technical and managerial positions, Donald has demonstrated a high degree of flexibility and resilience and willingness to embark into new territory. Donald has a high level of skills in both Solaris and Microsoft Windows and has recently gained an RHCT accreditation in Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Donald has demonstrated his ability to make systematic and rational judgements based on relevant information. While very good in making tactical decisions he always has an eye for the appropriate strategy. He is a highly motivated individual who sets high standards for himself and believes that whatever task is set is worth his total commitment through to completion. Currently living in Scotland, Donald has demonstrated on numerous occasions his willingness to travel to all areas in the course of his work.

Donald’s experience in providing high-level system support skills across public and corporate sector environments was enhanced by managerial activities in support of the Regional Service Manager and daily Team Leader responsibilities.

Prior to joining Northgate, Donald held full managerial responsibility at Moray District Council implementing computing and financial systems whilst managing an operational support and development team.

Northgate Enterprise Services Group (Internal)

Donald was recently the Lead Unix Design Architect designing the unix elements of the new Data Center for Northgate after the Buncefield explosion in December 2005, which destroyed the Company Headquarters including the Data Centre hosting both internal and customer computing facilities.

As a skilled Consultant, Donald was also heavily involved in the Disaster Recovery invokation following the explosion, during which customer and essential internal business was recovered with no significant loss of essential services.

Donald has recently completed a number of projects both for Internal and External customers as a member of the "Configure, Design and Build" team of the Enterprise Services Group based in Hemel Hempstead. Donald is based in the Linlithgow office in Scotland.

Northgate Business Services (Internal)

Donald recently completed an internal project revising the Disaster Recovery process for Northgate hosted customers. This included the implementation of DR procedures for the recovery of multiple server environments running under Active Directory domains. This was proven during DR test invocations carried out on behalf of and monitored by customers. This project also spawned a fully costed business proposal to management proposing changes to, and a risk assessment of current DR strategy.

Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Portal Project (internal)

Based in Hemel Hempstead, Donald worked as part of a project team to deliver technical build assistance on an HP Blade Server portal infrastructure for Devon and Cornwall Constabulary.

During 2-year secondment as a Technical Manager for this major Managed Service customer in Exeter, Donald successfully transitioned the technical team into three groups each reporting to different Service Delivery Managers. The first group joined with the help desk forming a larger team providing call logging, first line and second line incident management. The second group formed a desktop support field team providing site support for some 120 sites. Finally the core skills group, which he managed, delivering 24 x 365 operations support, server and network management and monitoring, third line support and IT Security services in both Anti-Virus and Firewall as well as professional services to the client evaluating, testing and deploying new application software. Donald commuted weekly from his home in Scotland for the duration of this secondment.


Donald was involved as part of a team engaged on a project to bring two major internet site developments to a satisfactory completion in a major London hosting centre, The project involved infrastructure build and server hardening. The resilient multi-server environment included back-end database servers, multiple application servers and web servers, fully load balanced and secured.
